SINGLE SLIT LIGHT SOURCE, SL-1.

This is a convenient penlight type of light source to be used as an experiment tool. The square-shaped unit is 185mm long, or just a little longer than a conventional penlight. A cylindrical lens and a slit are provided at the tip so that it can be used as a small-sized light source for observing reflection and refraction of light.

This tool is quite inexpensive making it easy for each student in your class to have one. Experiments can be performed readily on a sheet of white paper spread on a desktop, used in combination with a semicircular lens. By using three units in parallel (as pictured above), students can experiment with refraction of lenses.
