This kit demonstrates the latest in fuel cell technology using ethanol as its fuel source. Currently fuel cells use hydrogen or methanol as fuels. This fuel cell kit directly converts ethanol (alcohol) to electricity silently and without any combustion. The device runs non-stop for days, providing an amazing demonstration of next-generation fuel cell technology.
The new direct ethanol fuel cell is comprised of a small chamber within which the ethanol solution mix (90% water, 10% ethanol, similar to wine in alcohol content) is in contact with the cell’s membrane on the anode side, while the cathode is open to the ambient air. Electricity is produced as the wine‐like solution slowly turns to vinegar until the solution is converted 100%. Once this process is completed, a purge mechanism allows “fresh” ethanol to flow into the reaction chamber, simultaneously expelling the used fuel.
